OUTLINE OF A UTOPIC SOCIALISM

In 1824, the law of colonization was approved and encouraged the businessmen to celebrate contracts with the Mexican government to favor immigration. One of the people interested in the matter was Robert Owen, father of the Utopian socialism; in the factory of knitted fabric he had in England, Owen had organized a cooperation through which the profit returned to the workers. As an initiative, Owen sent a document titled “Message of the Mexican Republic”. The citizen of the world, like he used to call himself had reflected and concluded that the true nature of man had not been comprehended and consequently he was taught since his childhood to act and think in a wrong manner which made him produce evil instead of good. Owen was convinced that it was necessary to educate a new individual, unfamiliar with the bad influences of society. To take this project ahead, he needed a territory free of any law and institution, where he could create a new state. He had discovered that the ideal place was in Coahuila Texas, at the time it formed only one entity. In exchange of the donation of that territory, Mexico would free themselves from the imminent war with its neighbor up North and also they could associate with a province inhabited by smart men and superior and with who they would cohabit in peace. These human nucleuses would provide the world great scientific advancements. Diplomatically, the Mexican government answered Mr. Owen that even though his plan was appealing and the idea was beautiful, it was impossible to develop.
